Friends shape our lives and help us create memories that last a lifetime. Mentors are people whom we look up to and who teach us what we need to know to become responsible, thoughtful adults. But when a friend or mentor dies, we can be left with feelings of emptiness and despair. For teenagers, the loss can be especially difficult because they have to deal with the changes that adolescence brings while managing their feelings about losing someone important to them.
While close friends are likely to be most deeply affected by the death of a friend, an entire community may need to come together to grieve and cope with the consequences of losing a young person or mentor.
